Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta From Niger State Dies At 65

Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta from Niger State died on Thursday morning in Abuja at the age of 65, Premium Times reports.

Usman Kuta, a family member, confirmed the death to Premium Times. He disclosed that the late senator would be buried in Minna according to Islamic rites on June 12.

According to Channels Television, however, the senator passed away on Wednesday in Lagos on his way for a medical check-up. 

Dahiru Kuta represented Niger East Senatorial District and chaired the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernment Affairs. He was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Future senator was born on April 16, 1949. He was elected to the Niger State House of Assembly in 1983 and ten years later – to the Federal House of Representatives. Kuta won the 2007 PDP primary election for Niger East, defeating his brother, Ibrahim Kuta. He was elected Senator for the Niger East constituency in May 2007.

Mark mourns late senator

Senate President David Mark mourned Kuta, saying that death has robbed the Senate and the entire nation of a brilliant, vibrant and result-oriented lawmaker.

Mark described Kuta was a forefront parliamentarian whose views and positions represented those of the ordinary Nigerian which was why he was called the comrade senator on the floor of the Senate.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu expressed shock and grief over the death of Kuta.
