Former Military President Ibrahim Babangida has urged politicians in Nigeria to connect with their people at the grassroots.Babangida gave the piece of advice in Dutse yesterday at a public lecture to mark the 21st anniversary of the creation Jigawa.
He said he was impressed with the way and manner the people of Jigawa cheered their governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, as he was being taken round the state.
"This is a clear manifestation and testimony that Governor Lamido was connected to his people at the grassroots.
"I urge other leaders in the country to come to Jigawa and emulate him because of the way and manner Gov. Sule Lamido was accepted and embraced by his people,” he said.
The former military leader also commended Lamido for his developmental effort in the state in the provision of basic social infrastructure to the people.
The event was marked with public lectures by a former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akiyemi, and the first military administrator of the state, Maj.–Gen. Olayinka Sule.
