Principal Secretary to Imo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Emenike Ihekwoaba, an architect, has been abducted by unknown gunmen at Amaraku Junction, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
Vanguard gathered that Emenike, on Sunday was on his way to his Nkwerre country home with his wife and driver before he was ambushed and whisked away to unknown destination by the armed hoodlums.
Confirming the kidnap, the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Media Affairs, Chief Onyema Opara, said his boss was not only worried about the incident but making frantic efforts to secure his release.
Onyema claimed the hoodlums reportedly forced the huge Principal Secretary into their vehicle’s booth and zoomed off.
Opara said that government was not only worried by the development, but had employed everything within its reach to trace and release Ihekwoaba from his captors.
Speaking on how the victim was picked up, he said that not long after the Principal Secretary alighted from his car to buy a few things at Amaraku Junction, the hoodlums struck.
According to him, “you can imagine how massive the man is. They held him and put him in the vehicle’s booth. His wife and driver ran away. I think from the way it happened, they actually came for him.”
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Vitalis Onugu, proved abortive but Chief Onyema confirmed that government had reported the matter to both the State Security Service, SSS, and the police, stressing that they are working.
