Boko Haram Claims Responsibility For Latest Kano Bombing

Islamist group, Boko Haram says it is responsible for Friday's bombing on a Shiite Muslim procession near Kano which resulted in the death of 22 people.

According to Vanguard, the Islamist fighters made this disclosure on Saturday November 28 via a statement in Arabic on social media where it noted that its bomber “detonated his explosives which led to the death” of the victims on Friday.

"And by the permission of Allah these attacks of ours against Shi’a polytheists will continue ‎until we cleanse the earth of their filth," the group warned further.

Ali Kakaki, one the organisers of a march by the islamic movement of Nigeria, told AFP that, "For now, we have 22 deaths following the death of one more person yesterday. Thirty-eight people have also been injured, two of whom have been discharged from the hospital."

Members of the movement had continued their march (to mark Ashura, which commemorates the death of Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed) from Kano to Zaria in neighbouring Kaduna state, where their leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky is based, despite the recent bombings by the insurgents.

Kakaki also added: "following the attack, many more of our members have joined the procession," adding that their aim remains to arrive at their destination next week.

The Kano mosque bombing came barely a week after a popular Kano mobile phone market was bombed by teenagers, resulting in the death of at least persons.
