Conference of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities has urged prospective corps members posted to troubled states by the National Youth Service Corps to reject such postings.
National Chairman of CAANU, Chief Richard Ahonaruogho, said this on Saturday after the opening of the quarterly conference of the body at the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
He said insecurity had made it unreasonable to send graduates to some states in the country, urging the NYSC to only post willing students to serve in “dangerous states”.
He said, “It is only those who are alive that can serve the country. The security of the corps members should be paramount. Only those willing to go to volatile states should be posted there and those who don’t want to go should reject their postings to such states. We will support them if they refuse to go.”
Ahonaruogho said CAANU had met with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim, to discuss some of the problems confronting the nation and the need to revolutionise the NYSC.
