Top 10 Hit Songs Produced By Birthday Boy, Don Jazzy

It may surprise you to know that music producer and label owner Don Jazzy has spent more than 10 years in the industry producing great hits. When the work is good and evergreen not many will notice as the years pass. As the legendary hit-maker turns 33 today and as part of our Throwback Thursday, we look at some of the great hits produced by him in the last decade to celebrate his substantial contribution to Nigeria’s music industry.

 1. You Bad

This song takes us back to the good old days of Mo’hits Records. One of Wande Coal’s best ever songs, the lyrics are well constructed to woo any attractive lady be it fat or slim. Don Jazzy's beats were superb as he displayed professionalism in music production once more.

2. Bumper To Bumper

Bumper to Bumper will go down as Wande Coal’s biggest song. It was the track that sold him to us. Don Jazzy's beats and backing vocals more than made the song.

3. Oliver Twist

Oliver Twist was the last official collaboration between Don Jazzy and his former partner D'banj. It was the song that sold the latter to an international audience especially in the UK. The  beats-boxing was on point and really pushed the sound to a different level.

4. Mobolowowon

This was one of the songs that introduced D’banj to limelight. The singer narrated his struggles overseas and his return to Nigeria pursue music. This is one of the rare track where D'banj plays his harmonica. The track was also one of Don Jazzy’s introductory tracks back in the days.

5. Surulere

Surulere by Dr. Sid was proof that Don Jazzy can make a star out of anyone. As the name implies, (Surulere) meaning patience. That was what worked for Dr. Sid as he moved fast to becoming the top act in Don Jazzy’s pecking order.

6. Dorobucci

Some critics call it the song of the decade, others say it's not worth the hype. Whichever side you are on, the awards it has garnered since its release has determined its impact. Dorobucci introduced the acts on Don Jazzy's new record label, Mavin Records. It featured Don Jazzy and Mo'Hits veterans Dr. Sid and D’Prince as well as new acts Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and Di’Ja.

7. Scape Goat

Scapegoat was the track that caught Kanye West's attention and led to the beginning of the end for Mo’Hits. Kanye was on its remix. It featured the magic combination D’Banj and Don Jazzy, something that fans still long for, three years after the acrimonious split of the best duo out of Nigeria.

8. Pere

Like Dorobucci for Mavin, Pere was the song that introduced the Nigerian music lovers to the Mo’hits crew. It was the first hint that Don Jazzy knew how to work artists to bring out the best in them, playing to their strengths.

In Ten ten Don Jazzy played to the rythm of the popular children's game of teh same name, creating a playful beat that was great to rap to and dance to. a

10. Eminado

Eminado was veered away from Don Jazzy's usual hard dance beats. Produced for Tiwa Savage, the softer sound complemented the singer's sweet voice.
