Governors To Meet With FG Over Biafra Protests
State governors and opinion leaders in the south east have agreed to set up a committee to intercede between the federal government and pro-Biafrans over the recent agitation for an independent Biafra state.

The recent and renewed agitation for an independent state escalated after the arrest and continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the director of Radio Biafra.
The protests have escalated in the eastern and southern part of the country with some of them resulting in violence.

The south eastern leaders and the governors met in Enugu on Sunday, November 22, to discuss the agitation of the protesters which is championed under the aegis of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, and the Indigenous People of Biafra.
After several hours of meeting, Governor Rochas Okorocha read a communiqué that was agreed on by the group.
He said: “After a compassionate review of the recent MASSOB/IPOB agitation in the country, it was resolved that a committee be set up to dialogue with MASSOB/IPOB as well as with the Federal Government with a view to finding a lasting solution to the issue.”
He explained that the resolution of the meeting was to send a delegation to meet President Muhammadu Buhari over the issues hindering the development of the region and the supposed marginalisation of the Igbo people.
“The elders also examined other issues including poor state of infrastructural facilities in the South-East, marginalisation in federal appointments and other socio-economic issues that impact on the economic development of the South-East and resolved to support the decision of the South-East Governors to set up an Economic Council and urged them to interface with the Federal Government on remedial measures.
“A delegation of the Elders of the South-East was mandated to meet with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The absence of Ohaneze Ndigbo, an Igbo group was conspicuous and this reason was assumed to be as a result of the leadership crises rocking the group.
Okoroacha urged other governors to also set up a committee to look into the leadership crisis. Meanwhile, representatives of MASSOB and IPOB were absent.
Meanwhile, a retired commissioner of police, Mr. Ibezimako Aghanya said that the renewed agitation for an independent Biafra state was baseless as Biafra was ‘dead and buried’ with the end of the Nigerian civil war.
