Female Suicide Bomber Attacks Maiduguri, Kills 11

A female suicide bomber has reportedly detonated her Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along Maiduguri-Mafa road in Borno state, killing eleven people in the process.

According to Vanguard, the incident was perpetrated by the bomber whom sources say should be in her 20s, on Sunday afternoon.

Traders around the motor park said the bomber was around 15 years of age. She detonated a bomb at a crowded area, killing herself and 10 others.

Earlier, officials of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed that 9 people were killed in the explosion. The bodies were recovered from the scene along Dikwa road.

A police officer who said that he is not authorized to talk to the press said: "The explosion took place at about 12 noon on Sunday near Welcome to Maiduguri Muna Garrage situated along Gamboru Ngala- Dikwa Mafa- Maiduguri troubled road."

The scene of the blast is not far from the Maiduguri metropolis which has witnessed series of deadly attacks by terrorists during the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency.

According to emergency workers, at least 23 people had been evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital, including 11 deceased.

The Media Coordinator of Operation Lafiya Dole, when contacted said he has "just been transferred from the zone and now in Abuja to work with the Minister of Defence, which according to him, he is not in the position to comment on such issue."

Reports had surfaced earlier that seven people were confirmed dead when some fleeing Boko Haram terrorists attacked a village in the northern state of Yobe.
