Armed Robber Drops Ak47 Rifle, Flees

An armed robber on Tuesday dropped his AK-47 rifle and escaped with bullet injuries during a shoot-out with the police at Umuoji, near Onitsha, Anambra State.

Armed policemen attached to Idemili Divisional Police Headquarters, Ogidi, had confronted the robber while robbing his victims.

The robber simply dropped his rifle and escaped as the police team closed in on him shortly after a shoot-out, a police source said.

In another development, the police arrested one of the two robbery suspects who operated on a motorcycle at Nkpor, Idemili North Local Governemnt Area while his accomplice fled.

A police source said the suspects, armed with locally-made pistols, were operating somewhere at Nkpor, when a police team ran into them. The police arrested one of them and recovered his pistol and the motorcycle, while the other escaped.

Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer at Ogidi, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, told newsmen in his office that the matter had been transferred to Awka for further investigations.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ralph Uzoigwe, confirmed the gun recovery but but declined further details.
