PDP Made A Mistake By Imposing Jonathan On Us - Dokpesi

Chairman of the national conference of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Raymond Dokpesi, has said that the party made a huge mistake by fielding former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the 2011 and 2015 presidential elections.

The Nation reports that the Edo high chief, who spoke at a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, insisted that the party imposed Jonathan on them and it may have been responsible for the party's dismal performance in the last elections.

Dopkesi also bemoaned the negligence of the zoning formula as laid down by the party’s founding fathers.

He added that the PDP made the first mistake when it failed to retain the party’s 2011 presidential ticket in the North after the death of former President Umaru Yar ‘Adua and that a second one arose when Jonathan was made the sole presidential candidate of the party in the 2015 general election.

After apologising to all Nigerians and the party's chieftains who felt offended by the action, Dokpesi, the proprietor of DAAR Communications, added that it was normal for a party to make mistakes after staying in power for 16 straight years.

"There was impunity, imposition of candidates, breach of the zoning arrangement and lack of a level playing field for members.

"Make no mistakes, the PDP is aware that there were errors made along the way. We admit that at certain times in our past, mistakes have been made.

"We did not meet the expectations of Nigerians. We tender our apology. But the past is exactly what it is. We call on all party faithful, supporters and sympathisers to partner with us going forward," he added.

Meanwhile, Jonathan on Monday, November 9, 2015, arrived the United States of America as a guest of the Presidential Precinct in Charlottesville, Virginia.
