A heavy downpour yesterday sacked ten villages and killed two people with many farmlands and houses destroyed in Kiyawa local government area of Jigawa State.
Alhaji Ibrahim Musa of Dankoli village told Daily Trust that it was the collapse of the bride along the Kafingana river as a result of bad drainage that worsened the flood in their village, saying his family was stranded becuase their farmland and houses were affected.
An official of the council, Alhaji Basiru Maje, who spoke to news men, said about ten villages were affected by the flood.
“ It is unfortunate that we experienced a heavy rain that resulted in the death of Malam Kabiru of Adele village and Ibrahim Sani of Dangoli village. We lost about 1,500 hectres of farmlands, a number of houses were also destroyed”, he said.
He said the council had set a committee to evaluate the disaster, adding they had commenced distribution of relief materials to victims.
