The 26 year old expressed his joy at receiving the prestigious award. He said: “It is a great honour for me to be given this award. I thank God, through whom I achieve most of what I have, and my team mates for making it possible for me to score the goals that I score”.

According to statistics Ighalo is the highest goal scorer in 2015 in the English leagues with 23 goals. Ighalo has scored seven goals so far in the 2015/2016 season, leading his team to 11th place on the log.

The striker has also expressed his surprise at how well he has adapted to the Premier League after winning promotion to the top tier with Watford last season.

He said: "I'm a little bit surprised about it. There are great players doing well in this country, but for me coming from nowhere and being the leading scorer is a great thing."
