Vanguard reports that the northern elder criticized actions of the Buhari-led administration in a statement made on Monday, November 2, in Kano.

“Recent policy and non-policy actions of the new administration as promoted by some leading figures and the administration’s security and anti-graft agencies have left much to be desired,” he said.

Yakasai also criticised the treatment of Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser, who is charged with money laundering, and other perceived opponents of the administration.

The elder statesman noted that the overwhelming feeling today was that the country was returning to dictatorship, stressing that the president’s military background had taken the front seat.

The NEC leader called on Buhari to ensure that justice was done to Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations.

A month ago, Yakasai took part in Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily Today, where he clearly stated that he was not a supporter of President Buhari.

According to the elder statesman, Buhari scuttled democracy and returned to power "to get back at his enemies".

“You don’t come into power to confront your enemies, you come into power to govern everyone even those who stood against you, they’re citizens like you, you don’t maltreat them," he said.
