PDP Leaders Hold Crucial Meeting, Devise New Strategies

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a crucial meeting last night, October 29.

The meeting was reportedly aimed at devising strategies to checkmate the onslaught of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, This Day reports.

The PDP leaders were said to have met to try and find a way to portray the APC and the Buhari-led administration as running an oppressive government capable of snuffing life out of the opposition.

The PDP governors and national leaders started arriving for the meeting at 8p.m. and by 9p.m. the meeting started.

According to a source, the opposition party was meeting to strategise on how to counter the ruling party’s onslaught, especially in relation to the adjudication of election cases by the tribunals.

Annoyed over attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rubbish its electoral victories by using the election tribunals, the national leadership of the PDP summoned an emergency meeting of the party’s national caucus.

This was made known in a statement released by the national publicity secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh on Monday, October 26.

Metuh said the caucus meeting  would focus on the unrelenting schemes by the APC and its federal government to use some unpatriotic elements in the judiciary to advance their plot to take over states won by the PDP, particularly Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Taraba and Abia States.

The national caucus meeting is in furtherance of the decision of the leadership of the party to fully activate its structures in stiff resistance to the manipulations, coercion and threats of the APC-led government, and in line with the unbending determination by the party not to, in any way whatsoever, surrender any mandate freely given it to by the people at any level across the country, no matter the pressure,” he said.

Recall that the election tribunal annulled the governorship election in Rivers state and ordered a rerun within 90 days, while a similar tribunal ordered a re-run of the governorship election in 18 local governments in Akwa Ibom state. PDP won the elections in both state.

The opposition had earlier described the verdict of the governorship election tribunal in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states as completely bizarre, unacceptable and part of the script by the APC to manipulate the will of the people.
