NUPENG Backs Trial Of Subsidy Thieves 4 years ago 4

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has denied claims that the union was on strike at the prompting of oil marketers indicted in the oil subsidy scam.

The President of NUPENG, Igwe Achese, who stated this on Wednesday night in Abuja after a meeting with the Federal Government delegation led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Pius Anyim, also said the union was fully behind attempts to prosecute anyone found culpable in the fraud.

He said, “Let me say that this government has all it takes, they have the tools. Like we rightly said, we will not as a union compromise on fraudulent activities. We said clearly that any marketer that is found wanting, should be prosecuted.

“If you recall, it is the union in 2010, that raised this issue of subsidy scam that was on going in PPPRA. Today, we are happy that the issue is on the ground, whether we like it or not; at least, we have been able to see one or two evidence that something is wrong.

“We have agreed stay off the media and I don’t need to mention them again, that something went wrong in the disbursement of this money. They have agreed as well that they are reconstituting a committee to look into these issues of PPPRA issues subsidy payment scam, but I hope and I assure you tomorrow that we shall have a way forward.” Home Page
