I'll Complete My 4 Year Tenure - Wike Boasts

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state is optimistic that he will complete his four year tenure, in spite of the ruling of the tribunal, which nullified his election on Saturday, October 24.

Wike stated this on Sunday, October 25, at a thanksgiving service held at Obi Wali International Convention Centre, Port Harcourt, where the leadership and supporters of Peoples Democratic (PDP) gathered to honour God over the tribunal judgment, Daily Sun reports.

The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja and headed by Justice Suleiman Ambrosa had, on Saturday, nullified the April 11, 2015 that produced Wike as governor of Rivers state, citing irregularities and non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The governor who was received with jubilation by his supporters, assured that their mandate will be returned as he still had hope in the judiciary.

Wike said: “We will win and I will complete my four years tenure as the governor of Rivers State. The thanksgiving service today is very significant because, if what enemies planned had worked, I wouldn’t have been governor today.

“The nullification of my election by the tribunal sitting in Abuja shows that justice is ours. I am surprised that some people are celebrating over the judgment when they described the judgment against their candidates at the National Assembly as ‘judicial 419’.

“It is now that they have confidence in the judiciary. In spite of the judgment, we will still have hope in judiciary. I want to beg you, don’t be provoked. I know what happened at the weekend, it’s provoking. But, I know what their plans are; that is why I am begging you to be calm.

“I was minister in this country and I was given the highest responsibility and today, some people are struggling to be a minister; and they are celebrating to be a minister as if nobody has been a minister in this state.”

Also speaking, Felix Obuah, the state PDP Chairman urged their supporters to remain strong and bold.

After the tribunal’s verdict, Wike made it known that that he will appeal the judgment of the election petition tribunal nullifying his election.

In reaction, the PDP described the verdict of the governorship election tribunal in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states as completely bizarre, unacceptable and part of the script by the APC to manipulate the will of the people.

Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers state governor and the  governorship candidate of the APC in the April 11 election, Dakuku Peterside are grateful to God for granting the party victory at the tribunal, by nullifying Wike’s election.
