Authorities of Nigeria Prisons Services, NPS, have intensified investigations into the jail break at Oko Medium Prisons, Edo State, last Sunday.
Meanwhile, controversy has continued to trail the incident as both the prison authorities and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olayinka Balogun, are giving conflicting accounts of the incident.
While the prison authorities say some external forces stormed the prison with explosives with a view to freeing some inmates, Balogun, who said he was at the prison on the day of the incident, said there was no explosion, adding that no external gunmen stormed the prison, contrary to the observation of residents of the area and the prison authorities.
However, Assistant Controller General, Mr Nuhu Zuru, Director in charge of Operations, who came on a fact finding mission at the prison, told newsmen, yesterday, that investigations into the matter were still on going.
Zuru, who said he was unaware of the visit of the Commissioner of Police to the prison, said he did not want to be dragged into any further controversy on the issue until the final report of the incident was made public.
