Gunmen Murder Pastor In Bayelsa State

Residents of Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa state, are shocked following the news that Alawari Ogili, the pastor of Land of Peace Ministry, has been killed by unidentified gunmen.

The Nation reports that the pastor was killed at his residence along DSP Alamieyeseigha Way, Opolo, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, October 21.

It was gathered that the gunmen scaled the fence of the residence at about 2:00am, forced their way into his bedroom and murdered him.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a security source said that the assassins shot Ogili dead and left the house without stealing any valuable.

“It was a clear case of assassination. It was well-planned and executed unchallenged. We don’t know the offence of the pastor.

“The gunmen broke into his house, opened fire on him and ensured he was dead before they fled the place. They didn’t steal anything,” he said.

Meanwhile, other sources said that the gunmen switched off a generator in the compound to lure the victim outside.

“When he came out to check the problem with the generator, the gunmen who were hiding in the darkness, opened fire on him and ran away,” the source said.

When contacted, Asinim Butswat, the state’s police public relations officer, confirmed the incident and said that the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, where doctors confirmed him dead. Butswat stressed that the investigation was ongoing to find those behind the cruel murder.

Earlier this year, a similar tragic incident happened at Wakama community in Ogu/Bolo local government area of Rivers state. A group of unknown gunmen killed Rev. Ibiene Jamabo, an Anglican pastor, and a nine-year-old boy.
