Why Buhari Sacked Head Of Service, Replacement Mooted

Facts have emerged on the real reason President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the sacking of Danladi Kifasi, the head of the civil service of the federation, less than two months to the expiration of his tenure.

Reports yesterday said that Kifasi was asked to proceed on a terminal leave as written in a letter signed by the secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir David Lawal.

Leadership sources have now revealed that the presidency ordered Kifasi's retirement in order to ensure that his administration adheres to the federal character principles as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Although there was no statement by the presidency on Kifasi's sudden removal, it was reported that Kifasi is from Taraba state where Lawal hails from, and his removal is also connected to the fact that he was having a running battle with some permanent secretaries.

The president is now sure to pick someone from the south, as three permanent secretaries are already being mooted as likely replacements.

Kifasi had worked as a career civil servant, as the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources at different times.
