Police Arrest Gunmen, Uncover Bomb Factories In Kogi

Kogi State Police Command, has arrested gunmen in a luxury bus at Muhammed Murtala Bridge, Jamata,  Lokoja, on their way back to the state from one of the northern states. They also uncovered two bomb factories in the state.

The state Police Commissioner, Mr Muhammed Katsina, who conducted journalists round the bomb factories in Abu Limit Estate and Eyika Adagu in Okene and Okehi Local Government Areas of the state, said the suspects arrested with explosive were among the Deeper Live Church killers.

Muhammed who said information from the arrested leader of the 21- man gang, who masterminded the attack on Deeper Life Bible and killing of soldiers led to the discovery of the bomb factories, noting that those arrested at the Jamata Bridge left the state as reinforcement from the core North

He said that his men launched attack on the terrorist group when his command got wind of  their training camp in Eter Hill, where they were planning another attack, saying the gang opened fire on sighting his men, but were suppressed by superior fire power of the police, injuring some of the gunmen while others escaped to a farm settlement in Ondo State.

Muhamed, who said that the suspected gang leader, who was arrested at a banana farm settlement in Owo, Ondo State had informed that the group had planned to launch serial attack on Sunday to coincided with the Eid- el- filtr celebration before his arrest, stressing that the killers of the church worshipers and two soldiers had been arrested, while one of them died due to injuries sustained during exchange of guns fire.

“They planned the two attacks at their hideout in Eyika. Three persons each were detailed to attack the church and the soldier respectively. The pastor was the target of the attack but because of confusion as they entered the church, they shot sporadically to make sure they hit their target,” he said.

The commissioner noted that eight suspects had been arrested so far while two clan heads where bomb factories were discovered had also been arrested

Items recovered from the intercepted bus were seven AK 47 rifle,1000 live ammunition, 29 loaded magazine, six locally made guns, gas cylinder, two rocket launchers and  other bomb making accessories
