Nigeria To Import Rice From Malawi - Jonathan

There is a sigh of relief for rice farmers in the country as a new market has been identified in Nigeria, after President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan visited Malawi.

Speaking in the area of traditional authority Njewa in Lilongwe during the launch of national cassava commercialization programme Monday, Nigeria President Jonathan said Malawi should start exporting its rice to the West African country, saying Nigeria is ready to buy it.

“I would like to take this opportunity to ask Malawi to start supplying us with rice. I understand that this country grows a lot of rice which can be exported to Nigeria,” Jonathan said amid applause.

Jonathan also explained that there is need to exchange scientists between the two countries in order to maximize production of the rice and cassava, saying, “this mutual agreement would see both countries doing fine economically in the long term.
