The All Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate in the state, Dakuku Peterside, are challenging the declaration of Wike by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the April 11 gubernatorial poll.

At the tribunal, Wike had through his legal team led by Emmanuel Ukala gone against the permission granted by the tribunal to allow the APC and Peterside to submit a bundle of voters’ registers through a witness he produced before the tribunal on Monday.

In line with Wike’s request, the tribunal had summoned one Christopher Iyimoga to testify.

The currently retired Iyimoga was a national commissioner of INEC when the governorship election was held in the state.

Iyimoga had in his evidence told the tribunal that the governorship election was not marred by violence but was peaceful and conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act.

Peterside had alleged that there was no election in the state. He said though he cast his vote at Opobo/Nkoro local government but moment afterward, suspected hoodlums carted away election materials.

The APC candidate expressed his confidence that the tribunal ruling will do justice to the petition so that the Rivers people can once again work as one.

He said: “A governor who is truly committed to their yearnings and aspirations and I believe firmly that I stand as the candidate for the people.”

The tribunal will deliver its final judgement on the adjourned day, Friday, October 9.

On the issue of the probe into the Rotimi Amaechi-led administration, Governor Wike had reiterated his earlier stance to implement the findings of the judicial commission of inquiry set up by his administration to probe his predecessor stressing that he will implement all the recommendations of the panel without fear or favour.
