"Muslims Will Celebrate Sallah on Sunday"

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared that the Eid-al-Fitr would be celebrated on Sunday.

This was claimed in a statement issued by the Chairman, Advisory Committee of the Sultanate's Council on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Junaid.

The statement said that the new moon of shawwal was not sighted anywhere in Nigeria on Friday, and as such, "the moon of Ramadan had completed its 30-day circle."

"So Sunday, August 19, 2012, is the first day of Shawwal 1433 AH, and automatically the Sallah day," the council was quoted as saying in the statement.
