As Nigeria marked her 55th anniversary as a nation yesterday, October 1, there are some historical monuments in the country that reflect the struggles of the nation's independence from Britain.
Naij.com photojournalist went around town to get photos of the monuments that are part and parcel of Nigeria's history in the nation's former capital and now commercial capital, Lagos.
Unfortunately, some of them have been somewhat abandoned by successive governments, instead of been preserved for the upcoming generations.

Meanwhile, residents of the nation’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, used the opportunity of the holiday yesterday to have some fun. Many people came out to celebrate with their families and loved ones.
