President Jonathan's December Performance Was Worst In 2013 – NOIPolls
On Tuesday, the NOIPolls Limited organization has issued a report according to which 60% of Nigerians were dissatisfied with President Goodluck Jonathan's performance in December, 2013. This is his worst rating for the whole year.
The NOIPolls Limited is an opinion polling and research organisation named after its creator, current Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of Economy of Nigeria, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The company was set up to be used as a representation of Nigerian public opinion.
The monthly poll for December shows that only 4 in 10 of sampled Nigerians, or 40%, approved of the President's performance over the past month. These numbers mean a significant 10-point decline in the President's November 2013 approval rating (about 50%), and the lowest rating for the President in 2013, according to the report by the agency.
The year-round average approval rating for the President in 2013 was about 49 %. The average quarterly rating of the current administration (consisting of the Federal Executive Council, Ministers and Governors of the 36 states of Nigeria, and the Federal Capital Territory) for December, 2013 was about 25%, a 5-point decline from the 30% rating in November, 2013.
Based on geo-political zones spread, the report demonstrated that respondents from the South-East zone recorded the highest proportional approval rating of the President's performance (about 58%). About 40% came from the North-West, North-East and South-West zones.
The highest approval ratings were recorded in August, 2013 (about 57%), followed by October (55%) and February (54%). The poorest ratings were in December (about 40%) and April (42%).
The results review based on quarterly averages showed that the third quarter of 2013 was the best with an average of 53% rating, while the second quarter was the worst, with an average of about 43%.
Speaking about the President administration's quarterly averages, the best quarter for the current administration were the third and fourth quarters of 2013, with an average rating of about 29% each.
Power situation
In December, 2013, about 34% of Nigerians said there was a slight improvement in the situation of power supply.
About 29% of the respondents said the situation "remains bad," about 21% chose the option "There is no difference at all," while about 16% of the respondents said the situation has "gone worse."
The highest proportion of respondents, about 46%, that noticed an improvement in the level of power supply in their area, was in the South-East zone.
The North-West zone had the highest proportion of respondents – about 36% – who said power supply over the past month "remains bad".
Power supply was considered best over the first quarter, with a 41% average of respondents, and worst over the second and fourth quarters, with an average of about 33%.
