The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to reduce accommodation problems in the country by building one million affordable houses for citizens yearly.
The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ama Pepple, stated this yesterday while commissioning the first phase of the 288 out of the 575 National Housing Scheme in Bauchi State. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Dungal village, along Bauchi Jos road, the minster lamented that housing programs in the past were abandoned, but assured that the present administration would work hard to provide shelter for all its citizens.
"When you provide shelter for the people, you give them dignity because a good shelter makes one to live a healthy life," he said.
Pepple commended Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda for allocating enough land for the housing unit. Also speaking, the Managing Director of Federal Mortgage Bank, Mr Gimba Ya'u Kumo, said about N5.9 billion has been disbursed as loan by the bank to construct houses in Bauchi State.
Gimba said the first phase of the Dungal housing unit comprises of two and three bedroom flats, and advised the private sector to embrace the scheme. In his address, Governor Isa Yuguda, commended the Federal Government for the scheme.
