According to Information Nigeria, Marwa opined that Lawal's appointment “is not only a plus to his tribe or state or the North but the country as a whole”.

He also described Lawal as a thoroughbred party loyalist and philanthropist who he said has great contacts across Nigeria.

“His life as an accomplished businessman, a pastor and his military background will in no little way ensure high level of discipline and impact positively on his duties as SGF”, Marwa was quoted in the statement as saying.

"He is fair, straight-calls it as it is, a honest man who is not a yes-man, he will no doubt bring new sense of direction into office and as an engine room of government, we are sure the President will get honest advice and as such policies will be well implemented and properly monitored,” the statement read.

Marwa also commented on other appointments of the president including; Femi Adesina as the president’s special adviser on media and publicity; Abba Kyari, as chief of staff; Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd.), as national security adviser, as well as Col. Hamid Ali (rtd.) as Comptroller of Customs Service.

“From every indication, the President has started well by putting merit and the nation ahead of any other considerations in these major decisions taken so far. He will however need the support of every citizen for these sincere efforts to yield fruitful manifestations that will benefit the citizenry”, Marwa added.
