Niger state assembly impeaches newly elected speaker 4 years ago 25

Barely one week after been elected as the speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Honourable Isah Kawo has been impeached.

In a motion moved by Honourable Andrew Doma representing Shiroro and supported by Abass Wazire representing Magama.

Kawu was impeached after a vote of no confidence was passed with 21 members in support of the motion and only 3 against.

A new Speaker, Hon. Adamu Usman, has been elected and sworn in by the Clerk of the House.

His immediate predecessor, Mohammed Tsowa Gammunu, was impeached last Tuesday after a motion was moved by Hon. Bashir Loko Goma, representing Wushishi constituency under matters of urgent public importance for lack of competence.

Consequently, Gamunu; Ahmed Bello, the Deputy Speaker; Mohammad Dada, the Majority leader and Sa’adatu Kolo, the Chief Whip were all removed and replaced by
Isa Kawu as Speaker, Abdulrahman Gambo as Deputy Speaker, Mr Yusuf Kure as Majority Leader and Alhaji Nazeer Abdullahi as Chief Whip.

The former Speaker Gamunu, had on Monday, dragged the then newly elected  Speaker of the Assembly , Isa Kawu and 19 others before a Minna High Court seeking to restrain the new speaker from performing the duties of the office pending the determination of the case. Home Page
