Child Trafficking: Kogi Deputy Governor Denies Involvement

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, has denied media report of his involvement in the release of some alleged child traffickers, who were intercepted in the state.

His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Micheal Abu, in a statement, said the suspected child traffickers were released after due investigation by the police and consultation with the parents and guardians of the children and notable people, who intervened in the case.

He said: “The report that someone ordered their release does not even arise because everything was done by the police subject to their investigation.

“It was based on Police advise that they were released to their relations. The false rumour making round does not augur well for anybody.”

He said he had a one-on-one discussion with some of the children before their release, and  that most of them were students on legitimate journey to meet relatives in other parts of the country.
