The Bayelsa State Police Command has interrogated Mrs. Evelyn Seiba, the wife of the 72-year-old King Richard Seiba, who was kidnapped by gunmen at his palace in Okordia, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
Our correspondent gathered that Evelyn was invited by the police to assist them in providing clues that could reveal the identities of persons behind the incident.
It was learnt that there was growing apprehension in the community over the safety of the monarch following failure of security operatives to locate his whereabouts nine days after his kidnap.
Following the anxieties in the community, women, men and youths were said to have resorted to various means to secure the freedom of the monarch, including spiritual interventions.
But our correspondent gathered that security operatives who visited the palace of the monarch requested that Evelyn should follow them to the police command for questioning. The kidnappers had reduced their initial ransom of N30m to N15m in the ongoing negotiation between them and the victim’s family members.
But the kidnappers were said to have called one of the sons of the victims on his mobile telephone requesting him to bring some undisclosed amount of money to a bush at Kaiama, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.
But it was learnt that the bandits failed to show up sensing that security operatives accompanied the victim’s son to the location.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Fidelis Odunna, confirmed the invitation of the King’s wife. He said Evelyn was not interrogated but was invited to assist the police trap the kidnappers of her husband. He said the police were making efforts to locate the kidnappers and free the monarch.
He assured the people that the kidnappers would soon be tracked, saying nobody had been arrested in connection with the incident.
