Rainstorm wrecks havoc in Makurdi 4 years ago 3

Rainstorm over the weekend in Makurdi, Benue State destroyed property worth millions of naira.

While The Guardian observed that though no life was lost, several electricity poles had fallen just as roofs of many residential houses, public buildings and bill boards were blown off.

Areas mostly affected in the city included the College of Advanced and Professional Studies, (CAPS) which library and the bursary department were destroyed, as well as the Boys’ hostel at the Benue State University which had its roof blown off.

At the Voice newspaper and Police Zone 4 Headquarters along old Otukpo road, felled trees destroyed fences and blocked the road thereby causing traffic obstruction.

Other areas affected were Katsina-Ala streets, Atom Kpera, Ankpa quarters junction and Abu Shuluwa roads.

Meanwhile,  the city has been thrown into darkness while the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) workers are trying to fix the problem.

Reacting to the incident, one of the victims, Uche Nnorom, Benue State Correspondent of Peoples Daily, said she was shocked at the intensity of destruction.

Speaking, Special Adviser to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Public Utility Chief Okpe Ogbu assured that his office had commenced the inventory of damaged buildings and property to assist the victims. Home Page
