Army Boss Promises Change In Troops Response Time

Nigeria's new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Tukur Buratai, has promised that the Nigerian army under his watch will restructure its operations to effectively tackle the insurgency ravaging the Northeastern part of the country. 

Buratai made the statement during  a Sallah party organised for soldiers serving in Yobe state. The COAS who is on a working visit to the state said, he is committed to building a professional and responsive army that would execute its constitutional responsibilities with high sense of commitment.

He said, “My mission statement is to build a professional and responsive army because I have realised that although we have a professional army, the aspect of responsiveness is missing.

“Troops have failed to respond to distress calls that would have redeemed a situation, this has to stop under my watch. We will relate very well with other sister agencies to achieve our set goals.”

Responding, Yobe state governor, Ibrahim Geidam, praised the political will of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle insurgency in Nigeria.

Governor Gaidam commended the political will exhibited by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to eliminate insurgency in Nigeria.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, he said:“the visit of the COAS to Yobe to meet soldiers in the frontline state on the very day he assumed office, indicates a new dawn in the fight against insurgency.”

“From 1998 to date, we have provided 387 pick-up vehicles to the Joint Task Force for Patrol operations.''

Three weeks back, a female suicide bomber detonated a bomb killing herself and many people in a crowded market in Wagir, Gujba local government area of the state.
