The Senate, yesterday, denied a report that the Aviation Ministry was sponsoring Senators on overseas trip, describing the report as blatant falsehood.
The Senate also cautioned against the damage such unsubstantiated report could cause the nation’s democracy.
A statement by Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, said Senators were currently on their annual vacation, adding “the Senate is alarmed at the emerging falsehood being peddled, that the Aviation Ministry sponsored senators to overseas trip.
“The story is not true and only exists in the imagination of its authors. For the avoidance of doubt, the Senate is on vacation and as a result most of them are currently on Lesser Hajj (Umrah).
“Some are currently meeting their constituents, while others may have gone with their families on vacation.
“So, the deployment of an outright falsehood by the authors to purport that distinguished Senators were sponsored by Ministry of Aviation on overseas trip was not only denigrating, but a wicked resort to blackmail.”
