The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Mr. Ibrahim Maishanu, has said policemen are constantly under threats from armed robbers and other criminals.
The CP said this in an interview with our correspondent in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.
Reacting to a question on why criminals have intensified attacks on police formations and policemen, he said security agents had always been targets of attacks from criminals.
He said, “I am not afraid because we are always under threats. You may be traveling and some armed robbers in the bush on hearing the siren may think you are trailing them and they will open fire on your convoy.”
Maishanu, who was posted to Ekiti from Niger State, added that terrorists had shifted their targets from security formations to softer targets because of the stiff resistance they had met so far.
He, however, said the police in Ekiti was focusing attention on media houses and other areas in the state to ensure that they were not attacked.
He explained, “No security is perfect anywhere even in advanced countries like the US and Britain. You will still see some security lapses in these countries. But this should not be a basis for Nigerian security agencies not to curtail terrorist activities.
“We are trying our very best but don’t forget that we have our challenges as well. I want to believe that with time, their operations will be curtailed.”
