South Africa Nabs Two Nigerians For Lottery Scam 4 years ago 4

Police in South Africa said yesterday they busted a lottery scam syndicate in which two Nigerians were arrested. The syndicate is alleged to have made scores of people part with lots of money by luring them with fake lotto wins, state broadcaster SABC reported last night.

Police unit known as the Hawks yesterday tracked the alleged scammers to an up market hotel near the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

Two Nigerian nationals were apprehended in the raid, SABC reported without giving names. One of the suspects was shown with his face down on the station’s evening news.

SABC reported that a typical lotto scam will have a cellphone message preying on human fallibility and greed telling you that you have just won millions in a lottery draw. The sender is a service provider in the UK, and requests the receiver to contact a local representative.
