Asari Dokubo Endorses Biafra Agitation

Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, the leader of Niger Delta Volunteers Force has said his group shares the same vision with the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

Describing Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, the leader of MASSOB’s agitation as justifiable, he said the two groups were agitating for self determination and fighting for the fate of their people.

The ex-militant leader made this known while speaking with newsmen in Owerri on June 4, Thursday, Punch reports.

Asari said: “There is no difference between the vision of Niger Delta People Volunteer Force and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra. I say this because the demand of the Niger Delta and Biafra is a demand for self determination.”

According to him, he always visits the MASSOB leader so they can brainstorm on issues of regional interest.

He explained that they are both inseparable as they belong to the Ijaw cultural group, Egbesu, adding that Uwazuruike was the first non-Ijaw man to be initiated into the shrine of Egbesu.

"Egbesu shrine is the pride of every Ijaw man. When my people opposed his being taken to the Egbesu shrine for initiation as it is against the law of the land, I insisted that he should be taken to the shrine for initiation. With that initiation, he is an Ijaw man,” the former warlord said.

About a week ago, Asari had described the 2015 general elections as the most rigged election Nigeria has ever experienced. He lambasted the former president, Goodluck Jonathan for ignoring his advice and conceding defeat.

He warned the new president, Muhammadu Buhari, against undermining the interest of the Niger Delta people.  According to him, the policies started by Buhari would define the next line of action that the militant group would take.
