How To Tackle Insecurity In The North – Shettima 4 years ago 1

The best solution to the Boko Haram crisis is by investing in agriculture so that jobs will be available for the teeming youths of the North, Borno State governor Kashim Shettima has said.

Shettima said this during the launch of the Electronic Wallet System under the Growth Enhancement Support Programme by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural development, Bukar Tijjani, in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.

The programme, according to the governor, is timely and in line with the policies of the agricultural transformation agenda of his administration.

“Eighty per cent of the state’s population engage in farming as a means of livelihood, which is why the present government is dedicating much of its limited resources to the sector in order to create jobs, fight poverty, hunger and insecurity caused by youth idleness. Agriculture is the backbone of the rural economy and food security is a fundamental human right. As such, we need to invest in the sector to allow us maximize this potential and contribute to job creation and food security at all cost,’’ he said.

The governor added that his administration will partner the Federal Government and other donor agencies to boost agriculture in the state.

Earlier, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Bukar Tijjani, said his ministry will continue to support the state in the area of provision of adequate fertilizer and other farming inputs. Home Page
