Robbers Kill Bus Driver On Lagos-Ibadan Express Way 4 years ago 86

An unidentified commercial bus driver was confirmed dead while three passengers were critically injured following a foiled robbery attack at Sapade Junction on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday.

The spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the driver died when 10 armed robbers, who had laid ambush on the expressway, shot sporadically in a bid to escape from the police.
Adejobi said that policemen from Ishara Division swung into action upon being alerted and were able to dislodge the bandits, who were armed with AK 47 riffles and other sophisticated weapons.

He, however, said the Police Commissioner for Ogun State, Ikemefuna Okoye, had given directives to fish out the fleeing robbers who escaped with bullet wounds.

Also speaking on the incident, the Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Ayobami Omiyale, said the commercial bus involved in the incident was marked Lagos XZ 271 FKJ.
Omiyale said the white bus was heading from Lagos to Ibadan when the incident occurred at about 10a.m.

“The robbers shot sporadically at the driver and of course, he swerved into the bush before he died, leaving three of the passengers injured and in critical condition,” he said.
He said the rescue team of the FRSC responded on time to take the victims to the hospital as well as control traffic on the busy expressway.
The FRSC boss said the body of the driver had been deposited at the mortuary of Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital where the victims are also receiving treatment. Home Page
