The University of Uyo branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has raised alarm over the kidnapping of two of its members in the past seven weeks.
The union, in a statement signed by its chairman, Mr. Nwachukwu Anyim, expressed dismay over renewed cases of kidnapping in the institution, and called on security agencies to come to its aid.
The statement urged security agencies to step up their operations as insecurity of lives and property retards progress.
The union said while kidnapping and other violent crimes had abated in the state, its resurgence in the academic community was disturbing.
“In the event of further harassment, ASUU, University of Uyo branch will not hesitate to take all necessary and legal means to defend the rights of its members,” the statement added.
