Shootings Scare Maiduguri Residents Out Of Homes 4 years ago 4

Hundreds of residents of Adam Kolo, Shehuri, Limanti and Kaleri settlements of Maiduguri yesterday fled their homes followings rumours that members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnati Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, also known as Boko Haram had perfected plans to confront security forces in the areas.

It was gathered that some leaflets have been dropped in the areas, advising the residents to move out in order not to be caught in the imbroglio. “There was fighting between JTF men and some gunmen, It appears there are casualties on both sides but I don’t know how many people were injured or killed,” Akilu Mustapha, a resident of Budun said.

Our correspondent reports that there were intermittent sounds of gunshots throughout yesterday in all the areas even as operatives of the Joint Task Force have blocked some ways, including the one leading to Gamboru Market and Ruwan Zafi areas.

When contacted, spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, said there was no cause for alarm. “The blockage of the road was temporary and it was meant to protect the lives of innocent citizens,” he said.

Daily Trust gathered that the incident happened at around 9:45pm few minutes to the curfew hours at layin Babban Masallaci, Potiskum road. Residents of the area said they heard explosions which they said shattered the glasses of some house in the area. Yobe state Police Commissioner Patrick Egbuniwe confirmed  the attack yesterday.
