A truck travelling from Enugu to Yola in the early yesterday crushed to death seven people at a roadblock mounted by suspected armed robbers at Gidan Idi, a village on the Wukari Jalingo highway.
An eyewitness at the village said the truck which was on high speed ran over undisclosed number of persons who were forced to lie face-down on the road by the bandits, killing at least seven people at the spot and injuring others.
He said the robbers mounted a road block and were pulling vehicles over and extorting money from the passengers around 1am yesterday when the truck unknowingly ran into them.
According to him, the truck after crushing people hit some of the vehicles parked by the roadside and ground to a halt.
When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, DSP Amos Olaoye asked to be given more time to confirm the incident.
