The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council in Rivers State, Mr. Allen Nma, has given youths in Egbeda community, who are involved in armed robbery, abduction and other crimes a two-week ultimatum to surrender their arms and turn a new leaf.
The council boss handed down the ultimatum when he visited the community leaders. The directive followed incessant incidents of robbery, abduction and other nefarious crimes in the community, including a recent kidnap of corps members serving in their area.
However, Nma who visited Egbeda, warned that on the expiration of the deadline, youths of the community caught in any violent crime would face the full wrath of the law.
“Two months ago, we came here asking the youths to stop violence and crime against humanity but they refused to listen to us. Mind you, the process we are initiating here today is the same process we applied in Edohia community and their youths accepted our plea to lay down their weapons.
Chief Maxwell Ordu, who spoke on behalf of the community, pleaded with the chairman to be patient, promising that the community youths would turn in their weapon before the expiration of two weeks.
