Over 150 people have been arrested by the Delta State police for abduction, armed robbery and related criminal activities in the last three months, according to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba.
Aduba who spoke in Asaba yesterday when the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) visited him, said that the police were prepared to combat criminality in the state.
While calling on parents and traditional rulers to watch closely over their wards and subjects in order to check criminal acts, the Delta police boss remarked that the command had done so much to reduce crime.
Aduba told the union which was led by its Chairman, Norbert Chiazor, that the high crime rate in the society especially among the youths was due to drug addiction and unemployment.
He urged government at all levels to sustain efforts towards building industries that could employ them.
The commissioner lauded journalists for their support in the war against crime in the state and advised them to report issues that would encourage investors there.
