Full Budget Implementation Impossible –Okonjo-Iweala

"Full implementation of the 2012 budget as demanded by the House of Representatives is impossible," Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has said.

She said 100 percent budget implementation cannot be achieved by September as demanded by the House. The House had threatened to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan for poor budget implementation.

Briefing State House Correspondents after yesterday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, she said 56 percent of budgetary allocations has been released to ministries, departments and agencies of government as at July 20.

Okonjo-Iweala said full implementation cannot be achieved even by the end of the fiscal year saying, “Nowhere in the world can you achieve 100 per cent even by year end. Mr President is determined to implement the budget as much as possible. You can see that there’s no lack of efforts. By September, the National Assembly will know that a good effort has been made for the country as we go on month by month review.”

Also speaking Information Minister Labaran Maku said to check against such situation, Jonathan has directed that all projects in the 2013 budget should be accompanied with plans and designs.
