Group cautions Dokubo, Tompolo over Gen Danjuma

A group, Northern Youth Assembly, NYA, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to order the arrest of former Niger Delta militant leaders, Asari Dokubo and Tampolo, or they would be compelled to launch mass rally against the President.

The group made the disclosure through a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, signed by its president Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya and national publicity secretary Adikwu Omale Joshua.

According to the statement, the NYA condemned Asari Dokubo and Tampolo for their comments after General Theophilus Danjuma called for their arrest over provocative statements they have been making.

The group said the former militants leaders were reneging on a peace pact they signed less than two years ago.

“You were party to the peace accord at Owerri, the capital of Imo State, with some groups from the North and other parts of the country, on 12th September 2013, at the residence of Chief Ralph Uwazurike (the Leader of MASSOB) in which we the NYA also happened to be one of the signatories, an initiative which was facilitated by Major Hamza Al- Mustapha, on the belief that, you had sincerely regretted all your past atrocities and had also accepted to change for good,” the statement read.

The NYA urged President Jonathan to urgently order for the arrest of the former militants’ leaders for their recent war-threatening comments, saying Dokubo, Tompolo and their cohorts were capable of causing disaffection among Nigerians.

The group added that should President Jonathan fail to do the needful on the matter, “we shall be compelled to launch mass rally for passing a vote of no confidence on the administration before the elections coming up in about six weeks from now.”

Asari Dokubo, Tompolo, Boyloaf and other ex militants have been talking tough recently, saying that if President Goodluck Jonathan fails to win the election, there would be trouble in the nation.
