The Lagos State Police Command is presently looking for a truck driver identified simply as Adewale, who vanished with 169 motorcycles given to him to convey to Niger State from Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the motorcycles, worth over N15m, are owned by Zuki North Marketing.
Police authorities’ report stated that Wale, who works for Bodlak Nig. Ltd., was hired to convey the motorcycles.
Wale was said to have given the victim his boss’s business card with the name, Mr. Bode Alakija, written on it at the time the goods were being loaded into the truck and even gave his address as 108, South-West, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The owner of the goods, Mr. Godwin Ikejiani, told our correspondent that after the motorcycles were loaded, all attempts to contact the driver or his boss had proved abortive as their phones had been switched off.
He said, “Most of the motorcycles were unassembled and loaded into the truck at Oshodi and we agreed that he would transport the goods to Niger and I paid them N1.6m
“However, all attempts to contact the driver and his boss proved abortive and I had no choice but to report the matter at Mosafejo Police Station.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that when policemen went to Oyo State, they discovered that the address given by the driver was fake .
A reliable police source who craved anonymity said, “We went to Ibadan in search of the driver and his boss because that was the address given to Ikejiani but on getting there, we were told that there was no such company there.
“We also approached the Federal Road Safety Corps to help us to get the information from their vehicle registration number but they have yet to furnish us with the information.”
The source said the police believed that the truck was still in Lagos.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were still ongoing.
