Father Stabs Children, Kills Wife, Because His Marriage Was Falling Apart

Father Stabs Children, Kills Wife, Because His Marriage Was Falling Apart

A builder slaughtered six people, including his wife and their two children, in a frenzied knife attack after discovering she was having an affair, a court heard yesterday.

During a family barbecue, Damian Rzeszowski grabbed two 12-inch kitchen knives and attacked his father-in-law Marek Garstka, 56, while he was watching TV in his bedroom.

Rzeszowski, 31, then went into the lounge and repeatedly stabbed his two-year-old son, Kacper, who was playing with toy cars.

Moments later he attacked his daughter Kinga and her friend Julia de la Haye, who were both five, as they drew paintings in the family home in St Helier, the capital of Jersey.

The crazed builder then repeatedly stabbed Julia’s mother Marta, 34, before chasing his wife Izabela, 30, and attacking her.

At one point Izabela managed to escape out of the front door.

But Rzeszowski caught up with her and stabbed her in the street in front of the neighbours.

Rzeszowski then rushed back into house and continued to attack some of his injured victims before turning the knife on himself.

Medics were unable save any of the six victims.

Rzeszowski suffered a punctured lung, and pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility but denies murder.

During the opening day of his trial at the Royal Court in St Helier, it emerged Rzeszowski had carried out the attacks in August last year because he could not face the prospect of his marriage failing.

A month earlier his wife told him she was sleeping with another man, it was said.
