Man In Court For N6.4m Tyre Fraud 4 years ago 1

A 44-year-old man, Lawal Olaiya, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining goods worth N6.4m under false pretence.

Olaiya was said to have approached Patrick Uzuegbu, a tyre dealer in Idumota, Lagos, to supply him with 150 pieces of tyre on May 5, 2011.

The police said Olaiya assured Uzuegbu that he would pay him up as soon as he sold the tyres to his Abuja-based customers.

However, efforts made by Uzuegbu to either get back the tyres or the money proved abortive.

Olaiya was charged with three counts of felony, false pretence and stealing.

Police Prosecutor, Innocent Odugbo, said the offences were punishable under sections 409, 312 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

However, Olaiya pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate M.O. Ogunsanya admitted him to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with verifiable residential and official addresses.

The case was adjourned till August 3 for further hearing. Home Page
