One teenager died and ten others were injured when a discarded improvised explosive device exploded in Bauchi, This Day reports.
According to the report, no one was targeted by the explosion and the IED had been left in an abandoned building.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ladan has confirmed that a teenager died and 10 people were injured in a blast that occurred Sunday night at Tudun Wadan Daniya Bayan Garin in Bauchi metropolis.
CP Ladan, who disclosed this while answering questions from newsmen said: “From reports there was improvised explosive devise (IED) explosion in Bayan Gari which killed a small boy, 10 others were injured. They were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital ATBUTH, Bauchi.”
The source said most of the people injured were hurt when they were scampering for safety. The explosion took place near a local joint and a shop. A resident of the area said they suspected that the explosive was dropped inside abandoned old car near the building. “We were just drinking beer when we heard a loud sound we have to run helter skelter in order to save our lives,” he said.
