Detectives from Delta State Police Command, Asaba, have arrested six suspected rapists, who allegedly defiled over 16 teenage girls across the state, putting seven of them in family way, while six others are allegedly said to be battling with HIV/AIDS disease.

The names of the arrested suspects were given as Monday Igu, 31; Efosa Jacobs, 29; and Olu Osagie, 32.

Mr. Charles Muka, the state police spokesman, while reviewing the success recorded by the police in the last four months, told journalists on Friday that victims of the suspects’ onslaught were students of prominent secondary schools in Asaba, adding that the act was carried out through expensive gifts.

He alleged that the victims were lured into a cultural group known as “Asaba Young Club”. Continuing, he said a male member of the group, a commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as Okada rider, leaked the group’s nefarious deals to his colleagues, who, after their usual meeting in one of the schools (name withheld), were trailed by detectives.

The police image-maker disclosed that police detectives acted on a tip-off during which they were rounded up in a popular night club in Nnebisi Road.

“The victims’ relations came to the police station with the victims who confessed that one of the suspects slept with them,” Muka added.

Allegedly planning to also rob unsuspecting members of the public, Muka explained that the suspects confessed to making love to their victims, seven of them are now pregnant, while six others were allegedly said to be battling with HIV/AIDS. He added that upon completion of investigation, the suspects would be charged to court. Home Page
